Burnley
Three impressive
wins to date left two Kendal AC teams with everything to win or
lose. Needing four races to qualify Burnley would prove the
ultimate challenge.
Phil Whiting looked
comfortable throughout finishing 46th and 21st v40 but was
pushed to the line on the final lap by Richard Witt , who after
a difficult first lap gradually worked his way through the field
in a bid to hold off rival Dave Waywell ,rewarding him with 47th
and 4th v50.Steve Varney was tracking the three of them
finishing 53rd and 6th v50.With Mick Walsh 60th and 7th v50and
Phil Clark 74th and 12thv50 the team was unbeatable. Three other
athletes making up the v40 team were Ian swallow 92nd Pete
Acland 102nd and Stuart McGuark104th all adding to vital team
points.
The vet 45 ladies
record of three wins in a row was not about to be lost without a
fight! even though all three were feeling under par. Although
the field was smaller than normal crucial athletes were out in
force. The race was won by a delighted Jackie Hargreaves who's
season to date consisted of 5x2nd.Sadly Rebecca Robinson was not
able to compete and an almost certain medal hope at the end of a
great season was not to be. However under 20 Lynn Hamel's season
was to end on a high,1st in her age group and ahead of Dianne
Priestley22nd and 3rd v45.Marion Smith was29th and 7th v45
.Whilst Heather Goodman completed the team in 34th and 8th
v45.Once again victorious .
Under 15 Peter Jones
kept his cool 29th in what is hoped to be the first of many Mid
Lancs races.
Other young athletes
not taking part at Burnley were proud to be representing Cumbria
,at the English schools. Daniel Edmondson ran an outstanding
race 26th. .Nick Bradley must also be happy with his fine
performance 117th .Alisdair Russell ,though not feeling his
usual self should never the less, in a field of this quality ,be
happy with 174th .
Another great
performance was that of Chloe Rodham 27th.
