Subject: mid lanc's reebok challenge liverpool
A combined event which brought
together athletes from the mid lanc's league, Liverpool league and
the Reebok challenge but also the European trials was to result in
some head to head finishes which kept spectators spellbound at
sefton park Liverpool. the senior ladies was to prove one of them,
with Jo Pavey and Haley Yelling battling it out at the head of the
field . Kendal's Gemma Philips running her second Reebok of the
year said she had hoped for a bit better result, ultimately it
was the northern and nationals she was aiming for. to her fellow
team mates ,Gemma's 26th place in the Reebok and 1st in the mid
lanc's was more than good enough. Rebecca Robinson in only her 2nd
senior race was reasonably pleased with her performance in
5th,even though final team counter Dianne Priestley was in 32nd it
was enough to give the girls 2nd team just 7points behind Preston
harriers. Dianne was also 3rd vet 45 and running a second half of
the race was disappointed to find she finished just 8secs behind
2nd vet 45.Christine Handforth still not training fully finished
35th with super vet heather Goodman 56th and 8th vet 45.though she
has trained with the girls for many years this is the first time
under 20 Rebecca Cronshaw has worn the green vest of Kendal. this
is yet another dedicated athlete who will add to the strength of
the senior team . her race was one of the strongest contests of
the day but Rebecca used to major competition finished a strong
7th. another local was under 17 Chloe Rodham targeting the Reebok
races ran a strong positive race to add to her impressive list in
14th in the Reebok and 1st in the mid lanc's
Local athlete just up into the under
17 category was nick Bradley who had difficult start to the day
when his spikes were mislaid no one would have guessed there had
been a problem, when he borrowed spikes he finished an impressive
40th in the Reebok and 6th in the mid lanc's.
in the younger end of his age group at
only 13 years old ,under 15 Danny Edmondson finished 4th in the
mid lanc's just 13 seconds behind the leader, finding himself back
on track after his broken jaw. in the same race was local Kieran
Alderson who finished a well placed 16th.
although only 10 years old tom Doyle
is already a highly motivated runner happy to stand on the start
line with the best .a
determined run gave him 5th only 13 secs behind the leader.
in the senior mens race Phil whiting
was to lead the Kendal men home again on this flat fast course,
finishing 51st with Steve varney just 17seconds behind him in 54th
Steve once again high in the vet 50 finishing 3rd with Dave
Waywell 2nd v50 in his sights. Hugh symonds taking to the
country was 92nd and 9th vet 50. Paul Percival smith completed the
team in 168th. whilst ken Dacre eager to see the vet 50 team
successful this year was forced to watch from the sideline due to
illness.
