About Us

We are a small friendly Athletic Club centred on the lovely market town of Kendal in South Lakeland Cumbria and surrounded by some of the best terrain for running in the country. We welcome athletes, runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and ability. Have a look round our site, then come and join us for a run.

Web site

The purpose of the web site is to show the forward looking  face of our club in 2003 and  inspire you to take part in one of our races or training sessions and hopefully join our club. If you are already a club member the main committee and the road running sub committee would love any help to make our club even better.

Road Running

There are organised pack runs throughout the year  leaving Kendal Leisure Centre at 18:30 every Wednesday evening and 10:00 am every Sunday Morning. You will find us at most of races in the north west you don't have to a member of a club to enter a road races or run with us  but it will save you money if you do and give you the opportunity to compete as a team.

Fell Running

Kendal is a superb location for fell running ( we call our hills fells)  and many good fell runners live in this area. Many of us  enjoy the variety of mixing  fell, road and cross country running.

Fell running races are varied from the very short and steep to ultra marathons . If you join a club such as Kendal you can benefit from our experiences and we can advise you about choosing  races.

Cross Country

In the winter months the club competes in the mid Lancs cross country league you must be a member of a club to compete in these races. Distances you run differ from age and sex. All standards of runners are welcome and you must enjoy mud. You really need specialist footwear  eg running spikes.

Coaching information. Training for secondary school age track and field athletes takes place at Heversham Sports Hall (winter) and Kendal Jubilee fields (summer) plus all year at Salt Ayre Track Lancaster. Intake into the training group is via selection, in May each year, from Year 6 primary schools Shine Awards scheme organised by coaches or by direct approach to either coach for secondary school age athletes.

The philosophy of the coaching group is to ensure that all young athletes participate in, and are coached in, a range of track and field events. Too early specialism is avoided although interest and aptitude in individual events is also supported by more `event specific` training. Specific events that are coached include: sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, discus, shot, and javelin. The group also has well established links with North West Youth squad.

Competition information. In the winter the club competes in the North West Sports Hall league. In the summer the club competes in the Cumbria League, Mid Lancs League, Northern Womens and Northern Mens league plus the girls McDonalds Young Athlete league. Evidence of success of our approach comes from the real team spirit in the group and success in indoor Sportshall and outdoor Track and Field each year. The group contains many talented young athletes who continue to win honours at club and county level.
