3rd Hawkshead 10k

New mens course record Carl Heaven Annan and District AC 32:50

Please accept this Big Thankyou, we knew we had the venue, we knew we had a good course, The Kings Arms put us on a superb barbecue but most of all we needed the 178 of you who entered the race and 158 who finished . The rain stopped and we had fabulous conditions for the third running of this race. Many people ran their best times of the year including a PB for 1st lady for Dallam ACs Hazel Jones 39:52  (Ladies Record 37:02 Rebecca Robinson Kendal AC 2002 ) ,though  this is not a flat course  it does seem to be  quick, this might have something to do with the gradual down hill for the last couple of miles or so.   

There was the usual and welcome hoard of Wesham runners. plenty of Keswick, Helm Hill and other local clubs and 19 of us plus of course all the helpers and burger eaters. results are now  posted on

 Saturday 27th June

The 1st Gibson Grind 8 mile fell race

From Dean Gibson School Kendal

organised by Alec Mc Daid of Kendal AC

The first ever running of this race took place on a very wet Saturday the course was extremely well marshalled and flagged. The route chosen by Alec  was very runnable with a direct run from the school up onto Vicarage Park to Brigsteer Road over the cattle grid up to the Mushroom. Runners then followed the line of the scar southwards  towards the gate to Helsington Church and turning parallel to the Brigsteer Road with a big loop around the wall dividing the scar from Helsington Barrows with some wicked  little climbs in the second half of the race just to sort everyone out  with a long climb back up to the trig point from Brigsteer road before retracing the route back to the start . 

The race was won by Nick Spence in 58mins 04secs who must have best access to the scar of any one as he works from Boundary Bank.

Phil Whiting was 2nd overall first Kendal runner his next race is the Helvelyn Triathlon lets hope the swim is a bit warmer for him.

 British Champion Louise Sharp gave the race a big boost first lady and 4th overall and 61 mins 56s.

Peter Jones won the fun run and a years supply of Mc Donalds ! 

Alec has put a lot of work into putting on this race and  next year it should make the Fra calendar and the numbers should increase significantly.

Alec would welcome any suggestions to improve this race in 2005.

Cartmel 5 mile Trail Race

Bit of a damp night for this tough little trail race through the woods  from Cartmel race course.  The kids fun run is always very well supported.

Blackpool Marathon and 1/2 marathon Roundup

The Lynn Hamel Road show continues with a 3hr 42m 20s (debut marathon) run well  done to her also Paul Fry ran 4hr 12 43. Paul P Smith ran the half marathon in 1:47:06.

At Freckleton 1/2 marathon

Brian Crossland ran 1:38:56 and Rod Berry 1:59:44

"Mr Marathon" David Moffett ran the east Kilbride 1/2 marathon in 1:29:44 (70th)

The Magnificent 23

23 of us lined up in red and green at the start- an amazing sight for this era of the club, Richard Witt led us home. Alan Miller took over the lead in the mens Club championship. Christine Handforth's 2nd place in the ladies race and first Kendal lady home puts her now equal on points with Lynn Hamel.

90 runners took to the roads around Levens on a glorious

evening 15 Kendal runners and a huge contingent from Wesham runners who provided the winners in both the mens and ladies races Steve Littler in 33mins 41secs and Michaela Dempsey 44mins 13 secs

Alasdair Russell improved on his Kendal 10k time by 30 seconds at Lyth Valley 10k am impressive performance on a tougher course to lead Kendal home.
