Wednesday June 15th Club Championship 3/6 Tebay Fell Race

7.30pm  8 miles 3000ft 

Yet another magnificent turnout by Kendal men for a Club Championship fell race

Having watched the race for the last two years it was heartening to see so many of us on the start line and -then you all ran off and left me !

 The race though only 8 miles long and 3000ft has a wilderness feel more so than many of the Lake District Races , but the numerous marshals on trials bikes do an excellent job - they seem to be a lot younger than when I last ran this race and they seem to be having as much fun as us. The race organisers too has opted for the sportident timing system which ensures that check points are visited and provides split times at the end. Blease Fell is a daunting climb at the end of the race and has the effect of concertinaing up the field giving runners false hope of catching rivals.

Kath Finn has all but won the ladies championship 2005 she merely needs to complete here 4 races to pick up the trophy.  

At the half way point in the 2005 Championship the men�s championship still has plenty of contenders,  when we switch to the cross country races in the autumn I can�t praise the format enough, perhaps a dedicated fell running championship will encourage similar magnificent turnouts at other fell races. Hopefully Paul Percival Smith has finished by now after his break between the Edinburgh Marathon on 3:33.57 and running Blackpool Marathon this Sunday.

A fabulous start to this years Club Club Championships

with 19 red and green runners  making to the start line, well done Peter Acland

for providing the extra motivation for so many of us to turn up!

Craig Roberts has taken  an early lead (but probably wont stay the course)

last years Championship winner Alan Miller was only fifth  , second place finisher Peter Acland   was down in 14th Place

after driving back from Sheffield following a party.   Lots to play for when the championship switches to the road on Wednesday June 1st at Levens 

The only disappointment  was the absence of any  Kendal ladies.

(nb should more than 20 men  turn up at Levens all finishers will at last get a single point! diitto other races here's hoping!)

22 of us taking to the start line at Levens

the ladies championship continues to stutter along with only 2 ladies scoring points so far if no one else takes part at Tebay Fell Race Kath Finn and Carloyn Kevan could have the championship sewn up in June!
