Thank you for interest in our club as a new member, possible new member or
friend . I hope you find the following information useful. Club vests (red and
green explaining the banner colours) and athletics equipment and clothing are
obtainable from Pete Bland Sports or visit their website from April
onwards. The magazines Athletics Weekly, Running Fitness and Runner's World are
useful sources of information about all aspects of athletics and are obtainable
or can be ordered from most newsagents. The Fell Runners Association (FRA) also
provide a very comprehensive results and calendar service. If you are interested
in joining the FRA please again contact Pete Bland Sports or their web site in
our fixtures section. There are also an increasing number of other web sites
with fixture calendars which we also have links to in our fixtures section.
Although we are a fragmented club we do have a lot to offer regarding
variety and expertise, as long as you are able to make the right contacts.
Should you need any help or guidance I will try and point you in the right
direction.
Best Wishes

Coaching information. Training for secondary
school age track and field athletes takes place at Heversham Sports Hall
(winter) and Kendal Jubilee fields (summer) plus all year at Salt Ayre Track
Lancaster. Intake into the training group is via selection, in May each year,
from Year 6 primary schools Shine Awards scheme organised by coaches or by
direct approach to either coach for secondary school age athletes.
The
philosophy of the coaching group is to ensure that all young athletes
participate in, and are coached in, a range of track and field events. Too early
specialism is avoided although interest and aptitude in individual events is
also supported by more `event specific` training. Specific events that are
coached include: sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, discus, shot, and
javelin. The group also has well established links with North West Youth squad.
Competition information. In the winter the club competes in the
North West Sports Hall league. In the summer the club competes in the Cumbria
League, Mid Lancs League, Northern Womens and Northern Mens league plus the
girls McDonalds Young Athlete league. Evidence of success of our approach comes
from the real team spirit in the group and success in indoor Sportshall and
outdoor Track and Field each year. The group contains many talented young
athletes who continue to win honours at club and county level.
